Supplement label design: do you design it, or can I send my artwork?

Both. Pharma Manufacture’s in-house designer prepares label artwork for your brand and your market as part of the service, and finished artwork you already have is a workable start, provided it is built for the packaging you have chosen. A blister carton, for example, has to fall between 28 × 12 × 55 mm and 92 × 60 × 190 mm, and a tube or a sachet is printed a different way again, so the pack is chosen first and the artwork second.

Can I send my own label artwork?

Yes: finished artwork is a workable start, and the one condition is timing. Artwork is built to fit a shape, and that shape is fixed when the packaging is chosen. A file prepared before the pack is decided usually has to be reworked once the format is confirmed, which costs a round of corrections and moves the schedule.

For blisters and bottles, send the carton drawing or a sample bottle first. We confirm it against the cartoner or the counting line before artwork goes to print, so nothing is printed in a size the machine cannot run.

What does your designer do if I have no label yet?

Our designer prepares the artwork from your brand identity and the market you sell in. Finished artwork, a brand identity with no layout yet, or only a product name: all three are a workable start. On effervescent tubes the artwork is prepared for the tube itself; on sachets it is printed on the laminate roll, which is why sachet artwork has to be final early in the project, and the sachet carton is designed together with it.

What must the label carry, and who answers for it?

Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 sets the mandatory particulars on pre-packed food, among them the ingredient list, allergens, net quantity, the durability date and the name and address of the business responsible for the product in the EU. That business is the brand on the label, and it also answers for every health claim under Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006. Whoever designs the artwork, the text on it is the brand’s responsibility.

Is supplement label design included in the service?

Yes. Label design help is part of Pharma Manufacture’s private label service: our designer prepares the artwork for your brand, your pack format and your market.

Can the brand be printed on the pack instead of a label?

On several formats, yes. Effervescent tubes can carry IML printing, sachets are printed on the paper layer of the laminate, and drink cubes carry the brand on the foil of every blister.

Are the batch number and expiry date printed on the pack?

Yes, on the blister and on the carton. That is what links a finished pack to its production batch and to the batch’s Certificate of Analysis.

When does my artwork have to be final?

As early as you can. Pharma Manufacture counts lead time from a confirmed order and brief, and artwork approval is one of the two things that usually move it, together with raw materials. For sachets the laminate is printed before filling starts.
