Halal supplement manufacturer: can my product be made halal?

Pharma Manufacture makes halal supplements on request, for a specific batch, rather than under a plant-wide halal certificate. The plant’s own certificates are GMP, HACCP and ISO 22000:2018. What does a halal supplement batch mean for my order?

The halal status belongs to the batch you order, not to everything the plant makes. So it is part of the order from the start: name it in your first message together with the formula, the form and the country you sell in. When a distributor in your market asks for the halal document, it is the document for your batch that answers the question.

What the plant certificates do cover is the manufacturing itself: GMP-FS-01 and HACCP-01, valid until 17 May 2027, and ISO 22000:2018 MSC-22-1384, valid until 7 January 2029, for manufacturing and packaging of food supplements in tablet, capsule and powder form.

Are supplements halal? Gelatin and plant-based capsules

The shell is the first ingredient question in a capsule product. Gelatin hard capsules are derived from animal collagen. HPMC capsules are plant-based and suitable for vegetarian and vegan products, and they come in the same sizes, #1, #0 and #00, on the same filling setup. A softgel always has a gelatin shell made with glycerin and water.

Tablets, effervescent tablets and powders have no shell, so for them the formula and its raw materials decide the question. If your market is in the Gulf states, choose the formula and the shell with halal in mind and raise it before the quote, not after it.

Do your packing materials touch animal-derived material?
