How to import food supplements into Chile: SEREMI authorisation
In Chile a food supplement is imported as food. The Chilean importer obtains an authorisation from the SEREMI de Salud for each import consignment (partida de importación); no product registration is issued. Pharma Manufacture manufactures in Mārupe, Latvia, from 150 units of a ready-made tablet or capsule formula, from 4 weeks.
Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia register or notify a product once and import under that number. In Chile the paperwork repeats with every shipment, so the manufacturer’s documents are prepared for each consignment.
| Import step | Chile |
|---|---|
| Who decides | SEREMI de Salud of the region where the importer’s warehouse is |
| Procedure | Autorización de uso y disposición for each import consignment (partida de importación) |
| Applicant | The importer or its customs agent, online (ClaveÚnica) or at the SEREMI office |
| Always required | Certificado de Destinación Aduanera (CDA) |
| SEREMI may also ask for | Invoice, sanitary certificates of origin for the consignment, certificate of free sale, test results, technical sheet in Spanish, label or label draft that follows the Reglamento Sanitario de los Alimentos |
| Validity | Until the products of the consignment are used up or reach their expiry date |
| Service fee | $40,400 to $164,700, depending on the kilograms imported; ChileAtiende does not name the currency, which in context is Chilean pesos |
Steps
Steps to your first shipment to Chile
- You choose a ready-made formula or send your own; Pharma Manufacture returns formula options and a price (you and Pharma Manufacture; first reply within 24 hours).
- You and the importer agree the label text to the Reglamento Sanitario de los Alimentos, and Pharma Manufacture makes the batch with your artwork (from 4 weeks, about 8 weeks for a typical run).
- The consignment ships with the invoice, the Certificate of Analysis and copies of the certificates (Pharma Manufacture; transit as the buyer’s forwarder books it).
- On arrival the Chilean importer or its customs agent obtains the Certificado de Destinación Aduanera (CDA) from the SEREMI de Salud; customs requires it.
- The importer or its customs agent applies to the SEREMI de Salud of the warehouse region with ClaveÚnica, pays the fee and supplies the documents SEREMI asks for (Chilean importer; ChileAtiende names no term).
- SEREMI authorises that consignment, which can then be used and sold until it runs out or expires; every later consignment repeats steps 3 to 6 (SEREMI de Salud).

What you pay. For each consignment the importer pays the SEREMI fee, from $40,400 to $164,700 depending on the kilograms imported (ChileAtiende does not name the currency; in context, Chilean pesos), and the duty for the tariff line, which the broker confirms under the EU-Chile agreement. A certificate of free sale, if SEREMI asks for one, costs EUR 50 + VAT or EUR 100 + VAT at LTRK in Latvia. The Pharma Manufacture quote covers the product under your brand, made to the agreed formula and volume; help with the label artwork is part of the service, and every batch leaves with a Certificate of Analysis. Prices are sent on request.
Documents
Documents for the SEREMI file and where each comes from
SEREMI decides which papers it wants for a given consignment. This is what it can ask for and who provides each one.
| Document | Who provides it |
|---|---|
| Commercial invoice | Pharma Manufacture, with every shipment |
| Certificate of Analysis | Pharma Manufacture: every batch is tested in our laboratory and released with one |
| GMP, HACCP and ISO 22000 certificates | Pharma Manufacture, signed PDF copies of GMP-FS-01, HACCP-01 and MSC-22-1384 |
| Certificate of free sale | Issued in Latvia by the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LTRK): EUR 50 + VAT for members, EUR 100 + VAT for others |
| Label or label draft to the RSA | You and your importer write the text; your artwork goes on the pack at the plant |
Logistics
Shipping to Chile: sea, air and Incoterms
The factory in Mārupe is two minutes from Riga International Airport and close to the Free Port of Riga, so air and sea freight both start next to the plant. The buyer’s forwarder chooses the mode and the Chilean port, such as San Antonio or Valparaíso.
The importer of record is on the Chilean side, so the terms leave import clearance there: FCA, goods handed to your forwarder in Latvia, or DAP, goods delivered to your port or warehouse for your side to clear. Under DDP the seller would clear import, a step the local rules give to the importer.
Production takes from 4 weeks, about 8 weeks for a typical run from confirmed order and brief to despatch. Transit and the SEREMI authorisation come on top of that.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions about supplements for Chile
Does a supplement need to be registered in Chile before import?
No product registration is issued on the food route, so the first and every later shipment goes through the same step. The importer obtains an Autorización de uso y disposición from the SEREMI de Salud for each import consignment, valid until its products are used up or reach their expiry date.
How do you import food supplements into Chile?
With a SEREMI de Salud authorisation for each consignment. The importer or its customs agent applies online with ClaveÚnica or at the office of the region where the warehouse is, and the Certificado de Destinación Aduanera is always required; no product registration is granted. Pharma Manufacture supplies the manufacturer’s documents for each consignment.
Who applies for the import authorisation?
The importer or its customs agent, online with ClaveÚnica or at the office of the SEREMI of the region where the goods are stored. Pharma Manufacture supplies the manufacturer’s documents for the application.
Which documents does Pharma Manufacture send with a batch for Chile?
Pharma Manufacture sends the invoice, the Certificate of Analysis of the batch and copies of the GMP-FS-01, HACCP-01 and ISO 22000 certificates. Other papers SEREMI may request are agreed for each order.
Which rules does the label for Chile follow?
The Reglamento Sanitario de los Alimentos. SEREMI can ask for the label or a label draft that complies with it, so agree the text with your importer before the artwork is printed.

It depends on the tariff line. The EU and Chile have an Interim Trade Agreement, and the rate for your tariff line and the proof of EU origin are confirmed by your importer’s customs broker.
What is the minimum order for Chile?
Pharma Manufacture starts from 150 units for a ready-made formula in tablets or capsules, and from 80,000 for powder sachets. A formula developed from scratch needs a larger first batch.
